Cleanflow magnets

Cleanflow magnetic separators filter ferromagnetic (Fe) particles – such as iron and steel – out of powders and granulates in free-fall lines. They are used for applications in the plastics, food, pharmaceutical and ceramic industries, among others.

The magnetic bars of the Cleanflow are fitted with very powerful neodymium magnets. The magnet bars of a Cleanflow are always mounted in the centre of the fall-through chute within a stainless steel housing. Therefore they are located in the middle of the product stream and can filter out even the very smallest metal contamination, down to 30 microns.

Our most powerful Cleanflow magnetic separators can even filter out stainless steel contamination.

Very fine iron and stainless steel particles cannot be recognized by a metal detector, but our strongest Cleanflow magnets can nevertheless extract them!

 


Working principles

Static

Our standard versions of static Cleanflow magnetic separators generally have two rows of magnetic bars, staggered one above the other, so the product always hits or passes close to one or more bars.

The latest type ‘Easy Cleanflow’ magnet has just one row of magnetic bars, but deflectors located above the magnetic bars guide the product towards the bars.

Rotating

For product streams that do not flow as well, because they are sticky or greasy for example, and therefore cause bridging and accumulation problems.

By rotating the magnetic bars in a rotor, the product continuously falls off of the bars. This keeps the bars cleaner so they continue to capture iron more effectively and the product channel does not become blocked.

Manual, semi-automatic or automatic cleaning

Manual ‘quick-cleaning’ Cleanflows

  • In the case of the Goudsmit Cleanflow magnets that must be cleaned manually, the magnetic bars are located inside extractor tubes, so the captured metal does not have to be wiped off by hand, making cleaning quick and easy. We call this ‘quick cleaning’.
  • For quick-cleaning Cleanflows the magnetic rods must be pulled out of the extractor tubes, after which the captured metal contamination falls off the extractor tubes itself.
  • In this arrangement the extractor tubes also serve to protect the magnetic bars, so they wear less and therefore last longer.

Semi-automatic cleaning (‘Easy-Clean’) Cleanflows

  • For the semi-automatic cleaning types of Cleanflows the magnet unit must be pulled out of the housing manually – along a guide – after which the magnets automatically slide a step farther in the enclosing tubes and the iron falls off itself.
  • The tubes surrounding the magnets therefore wear less quickly, because they do not need to be extracted and pushed back in – much simpler for the operator and one less potential opportunity for serious damage.

Automatic cleaning Cleanflows

  • The automatic cleaning types of Cleanflow magnetic separators only require an electrical start signal to perform a cleaning cycle completely automatically. This signal can be given locally or from a control room.

    Automatic discontinuous cleaning
    • For these types the product stream must be stopped to perform a cleaning cycle.
    Automatic continuous cleaning
    • For this type the cleaning cycle can simply be performed during production.
