Magnet plus vacuum gripper reduces production time

The recently redesigned MagVacu® Combi gripper is a conventional vacuum lifting system which also uses magnetic force; it doubles the gripping power, allowing robots to move faster. This increases the robots’ handling speed, reducing production time, resulting in time being gained during the production processes in industries such as the automotive and metal industries.

 
The recently redesigned MagVacu® Combi gripper is a conventional vacuum lifting system which also uses magnetic force; it  doubles the gripping power, allowing robots to move faster. This increases the robots’ handling speed, reducing production time, resulting in time being gained during the production processes in industries such as the automotive and metal industries.
The system handles (perforated) steel, aluminium or stainless steel sheets, up to 12 mm thick. Since changeovers are not required for different products, it allows a larger range of products to be handled on unmanned machines. This integrated system is also twice as powerful and safer than conventional vacuum systems. The magnet pulls the steel sheet onto the vacuum suction cup, ensuring a neat fit all-around. As a result, no suction is lost around the edges of the suction cup, which would often be the case with conventional vacuum lifting of sheets with less smooth surfaces.
Considering the simplicity of the system, there is no wear and therefore also no maintenance required. The magnetic grippers last longer, justifying the replacement of existing vacuum systems.  Similar grippers can be used in automated processes on laser cutting machines, robotic cutting presses and press transfer systems in the automobile and sheet processing industries. 

Vacuum circuit connection
If a vacuum pump is not present, Goudsmit supplies an integrated Venturi Valve with a 3/2-way solenoid valve. This facilitates the connection of two vacuum grippers. This valve generates the vacuum and can turn both valves on or off at the same time by means of an electronic 24V-DC signal. The vacuum circuit has two functions; it terminates the permanent magnetic field in an instant and produces a high pressure condition in the suction cup to release a product very rapidly. Using vacuum grippers only, 75% of all products could be handled without changeovers, but by using the MagVacu® gripper, this number increases to 90 or 95%. By combining the vacuum technique with magnetic force, sheets are also handled with double the force and twice the level of safety, while material like steel, aluminium and stainless steel can be handled by a single system without any need for changeovers.
