Detailed product description

Application

The EddyFines is the top machine in the ECS (eddy current separator) line. This non-ferrous separator is specifically designed to separate the very smallest non-ferrous metals, also referred to as 'fines' or the 'fine fraction'.

At Goudsmit we have noticed that the potential of these fine fractions is still often ignored. This 0-6 mm mix is then used, for example, in combination with municipal solid waste incinerator slags as landfill under motorways or noise barriers. This is wasteful: this fraction often contains many HNF (heavy non-ferrous) materials, a large portion of which even consists of precious metals like gold, silver and palladium. The EddyFines focuses on these particles, and is distinguished by the extra large 38HI eddy current magnet roller, currently the largest on the market. This is extremely powerful, so it can even eject the smallest particles, just 0.5 mm across. The result: 3500 gauss on a 3 mm thick belt. The large rotor allows us to fit more magnetic pole pairs and magnet volume, resulting in pure separation of tiny NF particles.

Because the EddyFines targets smaller NF particles, it is often located at the end of a machine or production line. This machine is also often used as part of an eddy current cascade. For example, a 22HI EddyXpert may be used for the middle fraction, after which the EddyFines separates the fine fraction non-ferrous metals. These configurations provide a significantly higher separation yield.

The EddyFines can be expanded with modules, such as: vibrating feeder, separation cabinet, separation partition types, belt scrapers and various materials for the conveyor belts. The best solution depends on your product stream. The basic machine is extremely robust, enabling it to perform wonderfully even in harsh environments such as incinerator slag reprocessing plants.

If the fraction size of the pieces decreases, this has a direct effect on the trajectory range. Distance 'a' represents the distance between the trajectory of inert materials and non-ferrous materials. Because this distance is smaller than for coarser product streams, separation is more difficult and therefore less pure (grade). To achieve the maximum degree of separation, special partition wall modules, along with the rotation frequency of the magnetic poles and the magnetic force, are used to produce a pure non-ferrous fraction.

Design

In terms of design, the EddyFines is very similar to the EddyXpert, but there are several important differences:

1. Middle segment

As for the EddyXpert, the robust middle segment has the task of transporting the product streams and generating the eddy currents by means of the magnet roller. The conveyor belt, however, is 30% longer in order to ensure that the material to be transported is lying still when it reaches the magnet roller. Fine material is often more rounded and continues to roll longer when it falls onto the belt. In the case of the EddyXpert the pieces are larger, so they stop moving sooner, requiring less conveyor length.

To accommodate the extra length, three service doors are fitted (as opposed to just two on the EddyXpert). Otherwise the rest of the middle section is identical. The service doors on the side are easily removable for maintenance and cleaning of the machine.

Drum motor integrated into belt drive roller

An integrated drum motor provides the drive for the conveyor belt. This provides a compact design, because there is no motor protruding from the rear of the machine. This drum motor has an IP66 protection rating, so it is well protected against dust and moisture. This means that the motor is virtually maintenance-free, which contributes to making this a robust and user-friendly machine, a fact that will surely be appreciated by your operators.

The magnet roller of the EddyFines is 40% larger than that of the EddyXpert. As a result, the machine is higher, and the supply and infeed height is greater than that of the EddyXpert.

2. Supply segment

The function of the supply segment is the uniform supply of material – the creation of a monolayer. A good supply of material is crucial for separation of the non-ferrous metals: if other material is lying on top of the non-ferrous pieces it is more difficult to eject them over the partition.
Depending on your product stream, you can choose from various supply modules:

Vibrating feeder
Vibration feed EddyFines The vibrating feeder is the most frequently chosen option. It supplies the product stream to the middle unit as a uniform (i.e. distributed across the width) monolayer. If your product stream still contains ferrous pieces, we can expand the vibrating feeder to include a deferrization module, a drum magnet which is placed after the vibrating feeder. This causes the material to fall evenly onto the drum; the ferromagnetic pieces are separated and the rest of the product stream (including non-ferrous metals) moves on to the conveyor belt of the middle unit. For the drum magnet there is a choice of different magnetic strengths, so we can always guarantee optimal separation.
Conveyor belt module
Conveyor feed EddyFines The conveyor belt module has an integrated magnetic head pulley. This provides efficient removal of the pieces of ferrous metal still remaining in the supplied product stream. The magnetic head roller can be made with various types (strengths) of magnet, so we can always guarantee the best solution for your product stream.

Until now, the drawback of the conveyor belt module has been that the result was not a nice monolayer; the vibrating feeder function was missing. Therefore Goudsmit has developed the ‘churning unit'. This churning unit consists of a number of rotating churners (product distributors) located above the belt that churn up the product on the belt in a clever manner to arrange the product stream in a nice monolayer before it reaches the head roller separator.

3. Discharge segment

The discharge segment separates the inert (non-metallic) fraction from the non-ferrous fraction. The extremely robust separation box of the EddyXpert has service doors on both sides. These doors are easy to open with a quick-lock system. This provides quick access to the separation plate (the most important part of the discharge segment).

This comes standard as the 'fines' variant. This is a high, tapered separation partition, to allow separation with extreme precision in the trajectory range.

Besides the type of separation partition, its adjustment is also important. As standard, the separation partition angle can be changed with a manual, stepless (fine) adjustment. The distance from the partition to the eddy current magnet roller can be adjusted in the x-direction, in steps (coarse), through use of the provided slots. For more precise adjustment of the partition in the x-direction (usually not necessary), there are optional extras to choose from, such as a spindle.
